In a collaborative project between the Office of Innovation and the Engineering and Operations Departments at SEPTA, I conducted user research via observations and surveys to understand passenger behavior on the Market-Frankford Line (MFL), and identify opportunities for design solutions which increase ridership capacity and improve the overall user experience. Two of these design solutions were implemented on a prototype car which was used to conduct focus groups and gather feedback from real riders.
These findings were presented to the General Manager and various department heads in the form of a white paper and presentation, and the entire fleet of M-4 cars was commissioned to be reconfigured.
